Air Macau has been granted a fresh commercial air passenger transport license valid until January 31, 2046, the government said, marking a major extension of the flag carrier’s operating rights in the city.

The new license, issued by the Chief Executive of the Macau SAR, allows the airline to continue passenger services for the next two decades under the Civil Aviation Activity Law. It takes effect on February 1, 2026.

The new version of the civil aviation law is also scheduled to come into effect on February 1st of this year, ending Air Macau’s exclusive concession to operate commercial air transport services in the Macau SAR.

Authorities said the license is renewable, though extensions may be refused depending on market conditions. Air Macau is required to maintain a valid Air Operator Certificate and comply with five-year business plans approved by the Chief Executive.

The carrier must also provide a security deposit to the Civil Aviation Authority and pay annual activity fees, while remaining subject to all applicable taxes and regulations.

State-owned Air China is Air Macau’s largest shareholder, holding a 74.94 percent stake. The Macau government, meanwhile, holds a stake of 24.09 per cent.
