Lao Ngai Leong calls for joint Macau–Zhuhai aviation hub

 mar26

Macau National People’s Congress (NPC) delegate Lao Ngai Leong has submitted a proposal supporting the joint development of an international aviation hub on the west bank of the Pearl River by Macau and Zhuhai.

The proposal calls on the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), while ensuring safety, to further relax Zhuhai Airport’s slot coordination parameters and explore the establishment of a collaborative air traffic control (ATC) operating mechanism suited to the development of an international aviation hub on the west bank of the Pearl River.

It also aims to systematically address airspace bottlenecks restricting the development of Macau and Zhuhai airports, laying the groundwork for increased future flight capacity and improved operational efficiency.

In addition, Lao submitted another proposal to optimise entry policies for foreigners at Hengqin Port by drawing on the visa-free arrangements of the Hainan Free Trade Port, with the aim of supporting the high-quality development of the “Macau + Hengqin” model.

The proposal suggests removing the current interline ticket requirement for visa-free transit, allowing international tourists and business travellers to move more freely between Macau and Hengqin. It also calls for retaining and further optimising the existing 240-hour visa-free transit policy.
